The Story
It started with a simple question: "Can I use this ingredient in my formulation?"
I was deep into organic cosmetics formulation - my hobby, my obsession. I'd invested over $16,000 in equipment and ingredients. I could create beautiful products in my lab. But when it came to understanding whether they were actually legal to sell? That's where things got complicated.
The regulations are scattered across hundreds of documents. EU 1223/2009 alone has dozens of annexes. Then there's MoCRA in the US, SCPN in the UK, NMPA in China. Each with their own rules, their own restricted ingredient lists, their own labeling requirements.
I tried the existing tools. Generic AI assistants that hallucinated regulatory requirements. Expensive consulting firms that charged thousands for basic questions. PDF documents that were outdated before I finished reading them.
So I built my own knowledge base.
